We can’t get over this beautiful photo of Sudanese model Nyakim Gatwech holding a cute baby who is many shades lighter than her. The contrast in skin color shows us that there are many shades of black and that each shade comes with its own unique beauty.
Gatwech, who describes herself as “Queen of Dark“ on her Instagram page, has been seen all over Instagram lately with beautiful photos showing off her verk dark skinned complexion. Many have been mesmerized by not only her beautiful clear skin, but by her smile, showing her perfectly white teeth.
The photo of her carrying a baby much lighter toned than she, sends several messages. Firstly, regardless of our skin color, we are all humans with red blood flowing through our veins.
Secondly, color is determined by your genes, therefore, it is not surprising to see a women giving birth to a child with a very different complexion than its mother. Thirdly, black is beautiful in all its shades. Its a color that see no bounderies. Its rather unfortunate that society would snub someone who looks like Nkayim Gatwech and would give a pass to someone who looks like Alicia Keys or Mariah Carey.
Thankfully, women like Gatwech, will continue paving the way for others who look like her, the same way super model Alec Wek did unapologetically.
