In this edition of What You Didn’t Know, we take you far away to the Sahara Desert.

Did you know it snowed in the Sahara desert for 30 minutes on February 18, 1979?
The Sahara Desert is the hottest place in Africa and the third largest desert in the world with an area of 9.2 million square kilometer. The area with it’s high temperatures, had never been known by many to have experienced a cold season, but there was actually snow fall in this desert in 1979, which only lasted for just over 30 minutes.
So far, this is the only known time in history that it snowed in the Sahara. Unsurprisingly, the snow melted away very quickly.
