Cameroonian singer and music entrepreneur Wax Dey, is weighing in on why Naira Marley’s concert in Cameroon got cancelled. He allegedly claims he received information from the Ministry of Arts and Culture about the authorization to cancel Naira Marley’s concert came right from the presidency.
“I have been reliably informed by the Ministry of Arts and Culture that Naira Marley’s show was cancelled on instructions from the Presidency after a group of artists laid a formal complaint there.
These are clearly clueless artists who are using their contacts to misguide our admistration, thereby unduly punishing young cultural entrepreneurs and robbing us of the benefit of cultural exchange.
What will happen if Chad, Haiti, Gabon and Equatorial Guonea, Cote d’Ivoire etc stop inviting our own artists? We need to think deeper about the cultural, economic and diplomatic impact of this, and approach that same administration respectfully with a fill picture. I am positive that the decision will be overturned.”
