“There’s hardly anything you can say to me today that will move me. I’m so emotionless, I’m so confident of who I am…[Laughs]” – Omotola
Approximately four months ago, one of Nigeria’s most respected and highly decorated actor Omotola Jalade, delivered a telling interview when she was invited by Chude where she said she could have been a “prostitute or anything” following the death of her father.
She recounts that she lost her father at the age of 12, and that was the most defining event of who she has turned out to be. She said,
“Understand that I was very close to my dad. I was an only child for a very long time… and my dad was the manager of Lagos Country club at the time… all the presidents, everyone was there, so my dad was like the hit man. So I started rolling with people of influence at a very little age.” Omotola recounts.
She said losing her dad who was that close to her at 12 changed everything about her and she was willing to be a prostitute if that was the only way out.
Omotola Jalade who made her debut in the movie industry in 1995, and got married in 1996 at the tender age of 18, has acted in over 300 films to date. She is one of the most admired personalities in Nollywood with a marriage that has lasted for over 27 years. She and husband Mathew Ekeinde, a pilot, have four children.
She added in the interview that she did not mourn her dad at the time because she felt that her dad did away with her when he sent her to Kaduna, which was the last time she set eyes on him. She affirms that it was only when she became an adult that she began to forgive her dad, because she understood life much better.
Popularly labeled by her loving fans as “Omo-Sexy“, she has been very influential as an actress, musician, and philanthropist. If there is one actor who has been in the industry for over 28 years and has had little to no scandals to their name, then she is the one!
