On the morning of June 12, 2025, tragedy struck in the most unexpected and painful way. An Air India flight, number AI 171, which had taken off from Ahmedabad in India, was on its way to London. But shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed into a hostel building at B. J. Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad. What was meant to be a journey full of hope turned into a national tragedy.
The flight carried 242 people, including passengers and crew members. Out of all those on board, only one person survived. His name is Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen who was sitting in seat 11A. He survived with only minor injuries, a miracle in the middle of this massive loss. Sadly, 241 people died in the crash. The impact was so strong that it also killed 28 people on the ground and injured many others. The aircraft carried over 125,000 liters of fuel, which caused a huge fire when it hit the building.
Among the many who lost their lives was a family of five whose story touched the hearts of people all over the world. The father, Dr Pratik Joshi, was a software engineer who had moved to London six years ago. He worked hard, lived alone, and sacrificed many things just to prepare a better life for his wife and three children who were still in India. Every day, he dreamed of the day his family would join him so they could all live together again.
His wife, Dr Komi Vyas, was a dedicated medical doctor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Just two days before the flight, she resigned from her job so she and the children could begin a new chapter in London with Pratik. They packed their belongings, said goodbye to loved ones, and looked forward to a fresh start. Their children, Miraya who was eight years old and the twins Nakul and Pradyut who were five, were excited to finally be with their father in a new country.
On the morning of the flight, the family was full of joy. They boarded the plane with bright smiles and hope in their hearts. Pratik took a selfie of the five of them sitting together on the plane. The photo shows a beautiful moment of laughter and happiness, just minutes before the crash. He sent the photo to his relatives with the message, “We’re finally flying home.” That photo is now being shared all over the world as a symbol of love, dreams, and sudden loss.
The plane never reached London. What was supposed to be the start of a new life ended in a tragic accident. The dreams that Pratik and Komi had built over many years were destroyed in an instant. Their children, who had their whole lives ahead of them, were taken away before they could begin their new journey.
This heartbreaking story reminds us all that life is fragile. We often think we have time to follow our dreams, to say “I love you,” or to do the things we’ve always wanted. But life can change in a blink. Sometimes we do not get the chance to say goodbye.
So let this tragedy remind us to hold our loved ones closer. Let us say the words we have been meaning to say. Let us make time for joy and not wait for tomorrow to live our lives. The story of Pratik, Komi, and their children is painful, but it teaches us how precious every moment is.
May their souls rest in peace. And may we all learn to value the time we have with the people we love.
