Millions of Americans were shocked to find out that disgraced actor and comedian Bill Cosby was released a few hours ago from prison after the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania vacated his 2018 conviction on three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault in sexual assault charges.
Though he only served almost three years in prison, in 2018 Cosby received a 3 to 10 year sentence in a state prison for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home 14 years ago. The high court tossed the comedian’s conviction for assaulting Andrea Constand because of a non-prosecution agreement Cosby had with a prior prosecutor.
Cosby was released from prison because of the ruling which bars him from being tried again in the case. Cosby, who has been behind bars since his conviction, had always maintained his innocence. He released a brief statement on Twitter following his attorneys’ news conference which said:
“I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence.
Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law. #BillCosby”
Although many are celebrating his release, many have protested against the release of the 80’s comedian who was once known as America’s favorite dad.
