The war between two of the world’s most influential tech geniuses, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, is only becoming more interesting.
Since the launching of Meta’s new social media product; Threads, many are saying that Musk seems a bit disturbed, and bitter towards his rival Mark Zuckerberg, as the Twitter CEO has been throwing jibes at Zuckerberg accusing him and his company of stealing Twitter secrets to launch their new application.
It seems like neither Musk or the world saw Meta’s “Threads” coming, as the public was notified on July 5th, 2023 that the app was already available for use and though it’s still a work in progress, it has already become the fastest-growing app in history given that it has rapidly garnered over 100 Million users in six days. Threads has already amassed almost a quarter of Twitter’s total monthly active user base.
You would think many tech entrepreneurs would see Threads numbers as ground breaking and would be happy that another app is available to facilitate peoples lives. Okay maybe not facilitate lives, but where is the comradeship and why then is Musk not amused by this?
Like Zuckerberg, Musk is a genius and great at what they do, however, like most smart people in the world, smart people have one thing in common; they hate to be outsmarted and that’s exactly what Zuckerberg has done to Musk , and from all indications, Musk didn’t see this coming.
Mark might have used their upcoming fight as a distraction to launch his new app, because it seems like while Musk was busy hitting the gym and preparing for their fight, Mark was doing the unthinkable! He probably felt like he had the keys with one of the world’s most influential and most used apps: Twitter.
After acquiring the Twitter on October 27, 2022, Musk suddenly became a “bully”, doing whatever he deemed cool to him, caring less about the users complaints and welfare. There were many things he did with Twitter, like influencing the algorithm and many others, but the deal breaker here was arrogantly seizing verification badges from users and imposing an $8 monthly fee.
There is absolutely no doubt that this gesture alone made Twitter very cold for many users and with many complaints that users deplored, Musk gave a deaf ear and Mark saw this as an opportunity and quickly worked on a new product which is considered by many already as a potential Twitter killer.
Although Threads is not yet as enhanced with features like Twitter, the rate at which many users welcomed Threads and are demanding for the missing features seen with Twitter to be added to the new Meta platform, Twitter might just suffer from Musk’s arrogance.
In a post on his Threads page, Meta’s head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, admitted that the new app has currently has “tons of basics that are missing”, but it will get better in the future.
Musk and his lawyers are not backing anytime soon, as they have threatened to sue Meta. According to Musk, competition in business is allowed, but stealing of one’s secret business tools is not.
In effect, the cage fight we thought was just for buzz might just happen sometime this year. Musk will seek revenge both in court and in the octagon when both tech giants finally face-off. In a nutshell, no one seems to pity Elon, because the Twitter boss is just paying for his arrogance and might pay more if he doesn’t retract and give Twitter users the freedom they once enjoyed.
