One of the biggest challenges that young talents face nowadays is wearing a cap that is not only bigger than their heads, but that is even more costlier than their living standards.
By this, you can relate to why most people label themselves the best, but when it’s time to proof this feat, they go missing in action, and so does their career. However, most at times, these titles and big names are just motivations for them to stay on track. It makes a lot of sense when they are backed up by works and results anyways.
Let’s take a look at Godisz Fungwa, calling himself “King of the Craft” and a look at what craft he is referring to and how it has been a living the dream for. When we talk about Cameroonian entertainment, Godisz Fungwa sits on a separate branch of that tree of entertainment, from other actors and comedians.
“I’m not close to where I want to be. I’m however happy that I can use my comedy and skills to inspire and make people laugh. I’ve always wanted my voice to be heard and I still have a long way to go” – Godisz Fungwa on The Chat Center.
To reintroduce, Godisz Fungwa is a startling 26-year-old, multi-award-winning African comedian and movie actor/maker, with three billion hectares of potential still to be fully exploited by either himself or the industry.
Since rising to prominence via “Cité Malingo” it wasn’t strange when he went on to become one of the best Cameroonian actors after accepting a challenging lead role alongside Laura Onyama in “Saving Mbango” a movie that forever changed his status from that misconstrued wannabe ordinary Cameroonian upcoming actor, to the relevant actor he has become today.
While many could now see the lad’s incredible acting skills, especially when he impressed emphatically in Saving Mbango, many didn’t however know how much of a comedy revolution he was, till he chose that as one of his domains of focus!
He has won four awards as Best Actor in the movie, at the Black Continental Independence Movie Awards in 2020; Festival Ecrans Noir in 2020; Abuja International Film Festival in 2020 and by the New Breed Africa Foundation in 2019. He holds a fifth Best Actor Award from the Daval Comedy Compex for his role in the movie “Pickpocket” in 2019. The above are a few honors for someone who’s now a house hold name.
Richard has secured roles in award-winning movies like The Fisherman’s Diary and is on the road to other awards after playing a central role in the upcoming “Nganù” movie by Kang Quintus.
Ever wondered why his comedy stands out among many others?
The 26-year old is not only talented but distinctively articulate with a clean waterfall of ever-flowing vocabulary. Popularly known by many now, as the “Mentor” aka Richard, studying English in the University of Buea is enough reason why he sweeps everyone off their feet!
It’s important to note that Godisz Fungwa has only been in the entertainment industry for about eight or nine years and needed just a slight opportunity to blow up. Just like a shaken bottle of champagne, his contribution to this industry sprinkled from comedy to Movies. That’s what happens when preparedness meets opportunity!
Godisz Fungwa’s Facebook page has garnered over 72,000 followers, and his co-founded movie company Timeless pictures YouTube channel has over 23,000 subscribers and all credits could be attributed to his unique comedy prowess.
One thing about Richard’s comedy is that it’d unique and by unique, you can’t find it elsewhere, in fact, it’s not easy to copy his art, given his originality and consistency with his “common quarter” stories.
After all these, is there a reason to doubt Godisz’s credibility as King of the craft?
