The singer who did a cover of Nick Minaj’s song that went viral three years ago, finally gets her reward. Ghanaian-Dutch singer Nana Fofie joins Nicki Minaj’s record label as an artist under the rap queen.
This is good news for Ghana and Africa as a whole. It is also good news for female rappers in Africa and African female rappers, as the rap scene is still very much dominated by male rappers with very few female rapper MC’s being recognized.
The signing of more female rappers into labels owned or run by big named artists like Nicky Minaj will help put the spotlight on more female rappers, especially African female rappers, as more African female rappers will start gaining more global recognition in the rap game.
