There’s no way we can talk about iconic African women and not mention 79-year-old Graça Machel Simbine. She’s not renowned only for her influence in politics but also for her advocacy for better opportunities for women.
Amongst so many interesting facts about Graça, being the only woman in the world to have been married to two different presidents and of two different countries is so unique to her.
She was very young, when she married the first president of Mozambique when the country gained independence. She became the first lady of the country until the death of the president in 1986.
Graça persevered for several years after the passing of her first husband, before eventually moving on to Marry South African president Nelson Mandela.
They lived happily ever after before the demise of Nelson Mandela in 2013. They were together since 1998.
