Hyundai Mobis, a part of Hyundai Motor Group, showcased its groundbreaking concept car, the Mobion, at CES 2024. This car represents the future of mobility with its e-Corner System, a technology that makes each wheel of the car rotate independently by 90 degrees. This unique feature allows the car to perform impressive maneuvers like crab-walking (moving sideways), diagonal driving, and 180-degree spins. Such capabilities make parking and navigating tight urban spaces much easier and more efficient.
Unlike traditional electric vehicles that rely on a single motor, the Mobion uses In-Wheel motor technology, meaning each wheel has its own motor. This advanced design also incorporates steering, suspension, and braking into every wheel, giving the car exceptional flexibility. For example, drivers can easily slide into tight parking spots or turn around in extremely small spaces without complicated movements.
The car is also equipped with advanced sensors, including lidar systems that help detect obstacles and ensure safety during maneuvers. To enhance pedestrian safety, the Mobion features a ground projection system, which displays visual cues, such as arrows or crosswalks, directly onto the road. This system alerts pedestrians and other drivers about the car’s movements, adding an extra layer of protection.
Hyundai Mobis has confirmed that these technologies are ready for mass production, which means we might see them on the roads sooner than expected. The Mobion demonstrates Hyundai’s vision for smarter, safer, and more adaptable vehicles, setting a new benchmark for modern car design.
