Lamine Yamal is one of the most talented young soccer players in the world today. He plays for Barcelona and the Spanish national team and has been praised for his amazing skills and bright future. Many experts believe he will win the Ballon d’Or someday and achieve great things in his career. However, in recent weeks, he has been at the center of serious controversy because of his personal behavior and choices off the field. These issues have made headlines and sparked strong reactions from fans, football experts and the general public.
The problems began after former French World Cup winner Adil Rami made bold comments about Yamal during a live show on Twitch. While Rami agreed that Yamal is an excellent soccer player with a big future, he said he no longer respects Yamal as a person. He said he finds Yamal arrogant and accused him of acting like a show-off. Rami referred to a moment during the Nations League final when Cristiano Ronaldo tried to shake hands with Yamal, but the young player barely responded and gave what looked like a lazy slap. Rami said this was disrespectful and said it showed a lack of manners from someone who is still very young.
Rami also criticized Yamal’s appearance and lifestyle. He said that the way Yamal wears his shorts low reminds him of prison culture in the United States and Mexico. He added that Yamal posts too many flashy pictures on social media and behaves more like a celebrity than a soccer player. Rami was especially upset that Yamal wore a huge diamond necklace and took the number 10 jersey, which once belonged to older legends like Fernando Llorente. He said this behavior is annoying and shows Yamal is more interested in fame than hard work.
The situation got worse when news came out about Yamal’s recent birthday celebration. On July 13, 2025, he held a party for his 18th birthday in Olivella, near Barcelona. The event had around 200 guests, including influencers and some of his Barcelona teammates. The party had a mafia theme and looked like something out of a movie. But it was not the theme that upset people. What caused public anger was the report that Yamal had hired people with dwarfism as entertainers for the night.
A disability rights group in Spain, called ADEE, quickly reacted and said the party was insulting to people with disabilities. They accused Yamal of using these people for entertainment in a way that made fun of their condition. The group said this kind of behavior is not just wrong but also illegal under Spanish law. The Ministry of Social Rights joined the conversation and asked the police and the hate crimes unit to investigate the party. If the investigation finds that the party broke the law, Yamal could face a huge fine of between €600,000 and €1 million.
In the middle of all the criticism, two performers who were at the party came forward and said they were not offended at all. They explained that they had been treated well, paid fairly and enjoyed the job. They also said they were not members of the disability rights group and did not agree with its claims. According to them, they had the right to work and did not want people speaking on their behalf without their permission.
That was not the end of the controversy. A Spanish model named Claudio Calvo made more shocking claims. She said that the organisers of the party had invited women based on their physical appearance and asked for women with a certain breast size. She added that these women were offered between €10,000 and €20,000 to attend and were given strict rules about how to behave. Calvo said she refused to go to the party because the invitation felt humiliating.
Yamal has not made any official statement about these issues. However, he did post a one-minute video clip from the party on his social media with the caption “Just 1 minute, enjoy it.” In the video, he appeared dressed in a white suit with a cane, sunglasses and a diamond chain said to be worth around £300,000. The video only added to the impression that Yamal is living a luxurious and flashy lifestyle at a very young age.
Officials at Barcelona have not said much publicly. But Spanish journalist Pipi Estrada reported that people at the club are very worried. He said some top executives are concerned that all the media attention could affect Yamal’s focus and future. Many fans are also beginning to question whether Yamal is ready for the responsibility that comes with being a global sports icon.
Lamine Yamal’s story is a reminder of how quickly fame can come with pressure and responsibility. He has the talent to become one of the best soccer players in the world. But his recent actions off the field have raised serious questions about his attitude, respect for others and the influence of money and fame at such a young age. It is now up to Yamal to decide how he wants the world to see him. He can either learn from these mistakes and grow into a better role model or continue down a path that could hurt his future both in soccer and in life.
