Tay K, whose real name is Taymor Travon McIntyre, is an American rapper who rose to fame in 2017 after releasing his viral song “The Race.” The song gained attention because it was released while he was on the run from police. Tay K was born on June 16, 2000, in Long Beach, California, and later moved to Texas. His music career began to take off while he was still a teenager, and many people saw him as one of the rising stars in the rap scene. However, his growing fame was cut short by serious criminal charges that would eventually lead to a lifetime in prison.
In 2016, Tay K was involved in a home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, during which a young man named Ethan Walker was killed. Although Tay K did not pull the trigger, Texas law allows all participants in a felony that leads to death to be charged with murder. While he was awaiting trial for this case, Tay K cut off his ankle monitor and fled. It was during this time on the run that he recorded “The Race,” which quickly went viral on social media and music charts. His arrest later in 2017 marked the end of his short-lived freedom.
In 2019, Tay K was convicted of murder in connection with Ethan Walker’s death and sentenced to 55 years in prison. He was also given 30 years for aggravated robbery and two separate 13-year sentences for other robbery charges. These sentences were to be served at the same time. While serving this sentence, Tay K faced another murder charge for the killing of a man named Mark Saldivar in San Antonio, Texas, in 2017. In April 2025, he was sentenced to an additional 80 years in prison for this case.
Recently, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice updated Tay K’s projected release date to August 8, 2099. This is over 74 years from now, meaning that even if he were to live that long, he would be 99 years old by the time he is released. Under Texas law, inmates are sometimes eligible for parole after serving a certain percentage of their sentence. In Tay K’s case, he could technically be considered for parole after 30 years, which would be around 2047, counting from the time of his arrest in 2017. However, the new 2099 date suggests that parole is either unlikely or that the state’s records are showing the longest possible sentence term.
This update has shocked many fans and people following his case. Online discussions have shown mixed feelings. Some people believe the sentence is fair given the seriousness of his crimes, while others feel it is a harsh punishment for someone who was only 16 at the time of the first incident. On platforms like Reddit, some users pointed out that the 2099 date means Tay K is unlikely to ever see freedom again. Others expressed sadness at how a young talent with a promising music career ended up losing his future because of poor decisions and the people he surrounded himself with.
Tay K’s story is often used as an example of how quickly fame can disappear when someone gets caught up in crime. It is a reminder that actions have long-lasting consequences and that one wrong decision can change the course of a life forever. His rise from an unknown teenager to a viral rapper happened almost overnight, but so did his fall from grace. Now, with his release date set far beyond a normal lifetime, Tay K’s name will likely remain tied more to his criminal record than to his music.
