I know this article will seem controversial to many but believe me, and as a lover of music by Africans, this is just me thinking out loud about someone who might be missing a great opportunity in their career.
Gomez has been one of the unmerited musical gifts to the Central African music industry especially to his country Cameroon, but do we know that? May be we do, but does he know that he is? I don’t think he does, because if he did, he would not be laying low with all the musical talent he has inside of him.
For those who have been following Gomez’s career like I have, we must be honest with ourselves to admit that by now, he should be one of the first people of his generation to be referenced when we talk about Soul and R&B music in his country.
He is vocally gifted, handsomely endowed with a tattooed body, diverse dancing skills, in touch with his unique fashion style and is therefore supposed to be the Chris Brown of his generation. Though things might not be working as expected, we can make peace with the fact that the future seems bright with the coming of another artist named REMii.
Gomez recently released a song “Gokoma Vibe” featuring Hugo Nyame. However, the song is at 53,000 views in three months and I feel like these views do not represent his worth as he deserves way more.
Gokoma Vibe is modern day Makossa, a new musical journey he revealed to be adventuring in, though people like me thought he needed to cement his place as that number one Soul and love song plug in the industry, after his mentor Mr. Leo. However, Gomez surely has other plans and since he’s looking elsewhere, I think REMii is ready to take his place with immediate effect in that domain.
I see many similarities and things in common with these two. REMii signed under Kang Quintus Music could be what satisfies the lost supply of what Gomez offered. Vocality, versatility, physicality and dance moves are some things Gomez possesses that REMii equally possesses.
REMii has two offical songs out titled “Ma Vie” and “Mon Amour”.
I’m tempted to say that Gomez might gradually be losing to REMii and the attention will shift entirely to REMii as long as he remains consistent in doing what many fans expected from Gomez. Maybe the “Gokoma” vibe will work for Gomez which would be a good thing to see, but if he doesn’t thrive with it and wants to return to the R&B/soul sound, the Gomez aka Oba that we used to know might have to reintroduce himself over again.
In all, we must commend and applaud the work put in by Lionn Production since coming to the industry. They’ve been able to amass a whooping 75,000 subscribers on their Official YouTube channel in less than no time. We are also expecting more from Gomez this year.
