On May 9, 2020, the Ultimate Fighting Championship featured a heavyweight clash between Francis Ngannou and Suriname’s Jairzinho Rozenstruik inside the Octagon. However, Cameroonian UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou has dominated headlines over the past 48 hours and for good reason.
Knocking out an opponent in under 20 seconds in a highly anticipated fight is far from easy, no matter how simple it may sound. Nicknamed “The Predator,” Ngannou once again proved why he deserves that title.
The 33-year-old Cameroonian is certainly no newcomer to the sport, nor to UFC fans. Yet he once again etched his name into the heavyweight record books with a devastating demolition of Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 249.

It is often said that the best way to defeat an opponent and make it look effortless is to strike decisively and without hesitation. That is exactly what Ngannou did on Saturday night. Rozenstruik, though not the favorite going into the bout, surely did not anticipate what unfolded.
Immediately after the referee signaled the start, Ngannou unleashed his trademark power. Punch after punch landed with brutal precision. Before Rozenstruik could even attempt a counterattack, it was already over. The official time of the knockout was 18 seconds, with the referee stepping in moments later to stop the contest, making it effectively 20 seconds from start to finish.
Knockouts of that magnitude are rare. Even fans watching from home reacted in disbelief, describing the victory as clinical and abrupt. Some jokingly pleaded with Ngannou to let them enjoy the fight a little longer next time – a testament to just how swiftly it ended.
After the fight, a confident Ngannou addressed the situation:
“When I heard he called me out, I knew he didn’t know what he was doing. He has a lot of potential, but I think he needs to take a step back and prepare before fighting someone like me.”
He later took to Twitter to commend Rozenstruik’s courage, stating that he has nothing but respect for a man who believes in himself.
While Ngannou’s eyes remain firmly set on the heavyweight title, he maintains that even without it, he would still be a fighter. His confidence leaves little doubt that he believes the championship is only a matter of time.
One fan, Freddy George, expressed mixed feelings under Ngannou’s post, thrilled by the victory yet disappointed by how quickly it ended. That reaction alone highlights just how brief and explosive the contest truly was.
