Abdelhak Nouri Former Ajax Baller The Rise The Tragedy And The Life He Lives Today
Abdelhak Nouri was a young soccer player whose talent made many people believe he would become a global star. He was born in Amsterdam in 1997 and grew up in the academy of Ajax. People who watched him play as a teenager always spoke about his natural touch on the ball and the way he could create chances with ease. His style was graceful and intelligent and he played with confidence far beyond his age. Ajax trusted him from an early stage and he moved from the youth teams to the reserve team and then to the senior team where he continued to show creativity in midfield. Scouts and fans agreed that his future looked very bright because he had the qualities that fit perfectly with the famous Ajax philosophy.
In the 2016 season he began to appear more regularly for the club. Many young players get nervous when they first join a big senior squad but Nouri always looked comfortable. His decisions were quick and his technique was sharp. He also represented the Netherlands in different youth national teams where his reputation continued to grow. Everyone expected that he would soon become one of the most important players for Ajax and possibly one of the best midfielders in Europe.
Everything changed on a summer day in 2017. Ajax was playing a friendly match against Werder Bremen during a preseason camp. It was not an official match and it was supposed to be a normal preparation game. Suddenly Nouri collapsed on the pitch due to a heart rhythm problem. He lost consciousness and the game stopped immediately. Medical staff rushed to help him and he was taken away by helicopter to a hospital. The incident shocked the entire soccer world because he was so young and strong and nobody expected such a moment to happen.
Doctors later confirmed that his brain had been without oxygen for too long which caused serious and permanent damage. His soccer career ended that day. Ajax later admitted that his first medical treatment on the field was not good enough and they accepted responsibility for what happened. In 2022 the club reached an agreement to support his family by paying $7.85m and by taking responsibility for his long term care and needs. This agreement brought some support to the family but it could never erase the pain of losing the future they once imagined for him.
Eight years have passed since that tragic moment. His brother Abderrahim continues to share information about how Nouri is living today. According to him Nouri is still aware of what happens around him. He cannot speak and he cannot move independently but he shows his emotions clearly. His brother explained that Nouri smiles often and reacts when things make him happy. He also sometimes shows signs of frustration or sadness but most of the time he is calm and in good spirits. These small reactions mean a lot to the family because they show that he still has moments of joy and connection.
Abderrahim described how the family understands him through his facial expressions and small movements. He said that it feels similar to how a parent understands a baby who cannot talk. When they watch soccer together Nouri sits in his wheelchair and follows the match. There are moments when he smiles or reacts in his own gentle way. His family says that his sense of humor is still present. Even though he cannot speak he sometimes reacts in a funny or playful manner just like he used to before the accident.
His life today is centered around the love and care of his family. They keep him surrounded by familiar voices and positive energy. They remain grateful for every small improvement he shows because even the smallest smile brings light into their home. Many fans around the world continue to think about him because his story touched the hearts of millions. He is remembered not only as a talented soccer player but also as a symbol of strength and love.
